Weapons Guide

The classic seven

Crossroads free-for-all revolves around seven iconic tools: Sword, Rocket Launcher, Bomb/Timebomb, Slingshot, Superball, Trowel, and Paintball Gun. They spawn around the destructible map; you are not locked into a loadout screen. This guide teaches each tool’s job. For pure rankings, use the Tier List Hub and Weapons Tier Breakdown (S: Rocket + Superball, A: Sword + Slingshot, B: Bomb + Trowel, C: Paintball).

Warm up with Controls so swaps are clean, then apply tools per quarter via the Map guide.

Rocket Launcher (S-tier)

The Rocket is Crossroads’ identity weapon. Splash damage wins stacked fights on Castle bridges and Temple stairs. Aim at feet and walls when a direct hit is unlikely. Respect self-splash — firing into a Den closet is a self-KO.

Best with: open sightlines, third-party chaos, Hunt crowds (How to get KOs). Swap to Sword when: the enemy closes inside your splash radius. Role: Rocket Main.

Superball (S-tier)

Superball rewards prediction. Bounces off floors and walls create sniper moments across Temple yards and Castle courts. It finishes runners who survived a rocket. Vertical trampoline airtime near the Tower is spicy — balls go weird, so prefer landing-zone throws.

Best with: height, pre-aimed banks, Hybrid kits. Swap to Sword when: you are forced into Den tunnels. Role: Superball Sniper.

Sword (A-tier)

Sword is the truth-teller of close range. Timing and approach angles beat spam clicking. It thrives in Thieves’ Den and Castle interiors where rockets are awkward. Sword also cleans up after your own splash softens a target.

Best with: doorways, beacon scraps, anti-rocket punishment. Avoid: long open bridges against a loaded rocketeer without cover. Role: Sword Duelist.

Slingshot (A-tier)

Slingshot is rapid mid-range pressure. It is less “delete” than Rocket/Ball but excellent for chipping before a commit. Strafe with your target, keep camera steady (Controls), and swap up for the finish.

Best with: Temple rings, roof peeks, softening duelists. Avoid: greed slingshotting a full-health sword rusher in your face.

Bomb / Timebomb (B-tier)

Bombs control space more than they win fair midair duels. Deny stairs, doorways, and beacon approaches. Destructible terrain means a bomb can open a path or remove your own cover — place with intent.

Best with: chase defense, funnel setups for teammates… remember FFA, so funnels for your rocket angles. Avoid: cooking so long you die holding it.

Trowel (B-tier)

Trowel builds instant walls and platforms. Use them as tempo, not permanent houses. Angle walls, leave exits, and rebuild after splash. Platforms near Tower can create alternate Superball lines. Builders who never swap to a damage tool fail Hunt timers — see Builder playstyle and Crossroads Tower.

Paintball Gun (C-tier)

Paintball marks and annoys. It can finish a sliver of HP but loses raw KO races to everything above. Pick it up only when the pad offers nothing else, then rotate toward real tools. If your entire session is Paintball, your KO rate will stall.

Pickup & swap flowchart

  1. See Rocket or Superball → take it.
  2. Else Sword or Slingshot → take it.
  3. Else Bomb or Trowel → utility until a damage pad frees.
  4. Paintball → temporary.
  5. Before each peek, equip the tool that matches the space (Den≠Rocket greed).

Beacons while armed

Holding S-tier gear does not save you from a second different beacon. Heal smart, then re-peek with the same tool if it is still equipped. Beginner beacon deaths are covered in Getting Started.

Practice goals per weapon

  • Rocket: five splash KOs without self-downs
  • Superball: three bounce hits that mattered
  • Sword: win two Den entry duels
  • Slingshot: chip a target to half before swapping
  • Bomb: one doorway deny that saved you
  • Trowel: one wall that blocked a rush and let you leave
  • Paintball: acknowledge it and swap within ten seconds

Master the seven tools and every quarter becomes a decision tree instead of a panic. Crossroads is old, loud, and fair — your loadout IQ is the pay-to-win.
